Airdrieonians 1-0 Brechin: Match Report
Brechin miss chance to go top of League One after Aidrie defeat
Brechin missed the chance to climb above Livingston at the top of Scottish League One as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Airdrie at Excelsior Stadium.
The hosts were awarded a penalty in the 52nd minute when Dougie Hill was adjudged to have handled in the area and Iain Russell stepped up to convert his spot-kick. Paul McLean was dismissed in the 79th minute for the visitors.
Airdrie remain in fourth place but are level on 23 points with Alloa and just two behind Saturday's opponents, who trail Livi by two points having played a game more.
Meanwhile, Albion Rovers edged a five-goal thriller with Stranraer at Cliftonhill.
Albion opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Ross Stewart, who coolly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper following a defence-splitting pass from Stevie Boyd.
Stranraer were back on level terms in the 38th minute thanks to a Willie Gibson effort from just outside the box, but the hosts regained the lead before the interval through Ryan Wallace's penalty following a foul by Scott Robertson.
The visitors equalised through Joe Nuttall before Wallace grabbed his second of the game from close range to wrap up the points for the hosts.
Queen's Park were held to a goalless draw by Peterhead, who were reduced to 10 men when Simon Ferry was dismissed in 86th minute.
