An Ian Harty hat-trick was the difference between the sides as Clyde held onto the coat tails of Falkirk after bagging three valuable points at Airdrie.

This was one of those games that when the ball went into either box a goal seemed likely.

As it was the crowd saw five in the first half, and in addition, Airdrie twice hit the woodwork and were denied a goal when the ball appeared to have crossed the line but the linesman kept his flag down.

Such was Airdrie's frustration that they picked up four yellow cards while Clyde collected five .

Clyde opened the scoring after only two minutes when keeper Mark McGeown clumsily fouled Mark Gilhaney in the box. Harty took the spot-kick and converted well.

With the game in free flow it took Airdrie only seven minutes to equalise. An Alan Gow corner was headed home by Martin Hardie from six yards.

Things then took a turn for the better for the home side when Jerome Vareille rattled the post to serve warning that goals were coming.

Sure enough after 25 minutes Owen Coyle was on hand to prod home a fine pass from Vareille.

However, barely had the home side taken stock when Clyde were level. Poor defending allowed Simon Mensing a free header and he made no mistake.

Then at the other end Marvyn Wilson's effort rattled off the woodwork before bouncing clear.

Clyde used their speed on the right to good effect and a long ball down the wing to Harty ended with a fine volleyed goal.

Airdrie's challenge ended nine minutes into the second half when Harty finished the scoring. Paul Lovering conceded a free-kick on the edge of the box and Harty deflected Alex Burns' set piece into the net.
