United battle back to dent Arbroath

Airdrie came back from two goals down to earn a point in a 2-2 draw which dented Arbroath's Second Division title hopes.

The hosts started strongly and went ahead in the ninth minute when Keith Gibson converted Paul Sheerin's corner and he almost doubled his tally a minute later but was stopped by a fantastic save from Andrew Duncan.

Gibson was not to be denied, though, in the 40th minute when he got on the end of Gavin Swankie's free-kick to double the lead.

But it was a different story after the break and Derek Holmes scored his third goal of the season from close range in the 48th minute.

United continued to push and they were rewarded with 13 minutes remaining when John Boyle reacted first to Holmes' knock down to scramble in the leveller.
