Brechin and Airdrie had to settle for a point each after an exciting encounter.

Airdrie missed a great chance to take the lead after five minutes when the referee awarded them a penalty for a shirt pull by Grant Johnson on Stephen Docherty. Brian McPhee took the kick, but Craig Nelson dived to his left to save.

After eight minutes Airdrie's Stephen McDougall's shot was saved by Nelson, and then two minutes later the keeper saved from Stephen McKeown.

Brechin pulled themselves back into the game and went close after 22 minutes when Paul Ritchie headed just wide from a David White cross.

Brechin took the lead just two minutes later when Alex Burns broke on the right and passed inside for Johnson to shoot into the bottom corner.

Brechin dominated the start of the second half, and after 56 minutes Paul Ritche knocked down a cross and Alex Burns had a volley saved by Lee Hollis.

Two minutes later Allan McManus did well to clear a shoot from Burns off the line.

Airdrie equalised after 80 minutes when McKeown fired the ball into the net in a goalmouth scramble. Brechin went close a minute later when Kevin Byers hit the post from a tight angle.

As time ran out McPhee could have won the game for Airdrie when he broke clear, but he could only chip the ball into the hands of Nelson.
