Fifers ease to victory

East Fife edged to within a point of the Second Division play-off places with a 2-0 win over nine-man Airdrie at the Bayview Stadium.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 36th minute when goalkeeper Grant Adam handled Robert Linn's effort outside the area.

And things got worse for The Diamonds three minutes before the interval, Sean Lynch felled Robert Sloan inside the area before Sloan converted the kick himself.

Airdrie's hopes of getting back into the match were worsened when Sean Lynch fouled Ryan Wallace to pick up his second booking of the afternoon.

Substitute Craig Johnstone made sure of victory three minutes from time when he rose highest to head home Darren McCormack's cross.

Ryan Donnelly came closest to pulling a goal back but could not keep his shot down from close range. Airdrie remain six points adrift of the play-offs after only recording one win in their last six outings.
