Never mind the Glasgow Derby for sure silliness if not venom Lanarkshire can match it.

Aidrie Utd deservedly took 3 points with splendid goals with a match that began as positive entertaining ecounter ended in farce.

Hamilton took the lead after 11 minutes with Brian Mcphee's first goal of the season. Mark Cocoran played a well judged ball which the Bee controlled and placed passed Lee Hollis when one on one.

3 minutes later the Accies almost went further ahead but Mark McLoughlins close range header was cleared off the line after a Brian carrigan corner.

But Airdire were in no mood to panic and the old head of Owen Coyle put United on level terms. Alan Gow showed fine control on the right edge of the penalty box before firing in a pin point cross for Coyle to nod home.

2 minutes before half time Coyle returned the favour with a well worked one two that Gow put away from close range.

Gow's goal ended the first half and signalled the end of the game as a football contest.

10 minutes after the restart referee Kenny Clark must have been having a flashback to the nightmare owed from Derby last week.

David Carney was the main culprit foolishly lashing out at an Airdrie player minutes after being booked. In the midst of the meleue none of the players from either side appeared to want to miss out on the shoving match and Carney walked while Mark McLaughlin and Airdries sTeven docherty were cautioned. They were joined in the book by another 5 players in a match which petulence and niggling fouls became the order of the day.

Amid the nonsense football briefly broke through when Gow, the best player on show controlled Marvin Wilson's long ball and chopped McEawn from the edge of the box on 78 minutes.

There ended the game as a spectacle and the final whistle came as something of a relief.

Football issues aside Airdries third consecutive win leads them seven points clear of an Accies side that has a greater air of doom about it as the season wears on.
